Meta says it will let candidates use AI in some job interviews

Meta is experimenting with a new coding interview format that permits candidates to use AI tools during the assessment. Internal communications, confirmed by 404 Media, indicate the company is enlisting internal staff for mock interviews to help shape the structure and fine-tune the process.

The initiative reflects the widespread use of AI assistants and agents in everyday work, especially among software developers. By integrating these tools into interviews, Meta hopes to replicate the environment engineers will encounter on the job.

“Meta is developing a new type of coding interview in which candidates have access to an AI assistant,” one internal post stated. “This is more representative of the developer environment that our future employees will work in, and also makes LLM-based cheating less effective.”

A Meta spokesperson said: “We’re obviously focused on using AI to help engineers with their day-to-day work, so it should be no surprise that we’re testing how to provide these tools to applicants during interviews.”
