New Threads Feature Lets Users Share Long-Form Text
Meta is testing a text attachment feature on Threads that allows users to share longer blocks of text in a single post. The feature eliminates the need to post multiple connected posts to express more detailed ideas.
The update was first spotted on iOS by app researcher Radu Oncescu. According to the app, the feature allows users to “attach longer text and get creative with styling tools to share deeper thoughts, news snippets, book excerpts, and more.” Users like Robert P. Nickson have already shared posts demonstrating the feature, with clickable gray boxes for viewing full text.
Threads hopes this functionality will attract creators and writers seeking more distribution beyond blogs or newsletters like Substack. Unlike X, which restricts long-form Articles to Premium subscribers, Threads’ text attachments are currently available to all users.
While text-only for now, the feature could expand to include multimedia in the future. This addition complements other recent upgrades, such as DMs, AI enhancements, custom feeds, and fediverse integration, as Threads approaches 400 million monthly active users, still behind X’s 600 million.
