iPhone Air Launch: Apple’s “Biggest Leap Ever” Since iPhone X

Apple introduced the iPhone Air at its September 9 showcase, highlighting a thickness of just 5.6mm. CEO Tim Cook labeled it the company’s “biggest leap ever for iPhone,” and the most notable lineup addition since the iPhone X. With a $999 price tag, the Air bridges the gap between the $799 iPhone 17 and the $1,099 iPhone 17 Pro.

The iPhone Air and its counterparts run on the A19 Pro chip and Apple’s N1 wireless chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. Pro devices gain vapor chamber cooling, and every new model ships with the Liquid Glass build supported by iOS 26.

Hardware news also included the Apple Watch Series 11 with 5G and hypertension monitoring, the Ultra 3 with satellite features, and the AirPods Pro 3, which now include heart-rate tracking, new workouts, improved noise cancellation, and live translation for $249.

Apple Intelligence saw smaller updates, adding live translation. Market analysts expect Apple’s AI evolution to accelerate toward 2027, marking the iPhone’s 20th anniversary.
