Apple appeals EU’s €500M fine over App Store payment restraints
On Monday, Apple filed an appeal against the European Union’s €500 million fine over its App Store payment rules. The sanction was imposed in April after regulators said the company failed to follow Digital Markets Act requirements allowing developers to bypass Apple’s payment system.
The Commission argued that Apple’s policies prevented fair competition by restricting developers from offering alternative payment links or instructions to customers.
In June, Apple adjusted its EU App Store terms, adding new fees to accommodate third-party payment systems. These included an acquisition charge, a store services fee, and a core technology commission.
Apple said the ruling forces business terms that are “confusing for developers and bad for users” and pledged to challenge the decision in court.
