Jack Dorsey’s Bluetooth messaging app Bitchat now on App Store
Bitchat, developed by Twitter and Block founder Jack Dorsey, is now available on the iOS App Store. Dorsey said he built the app’s foundation over a weekend in early July, taking a hands-on role in its coding.
It runs on Bluetooth mesh networks, letting users send messages to others within around 100 meters without needing Wi-Fi or cellular service. The technology supports resilient communication in areas where traditional networks may be overloaded or absent.
The app has a minimalist layout, eliminating log-ins and opening straight to a chat window where users can view local conversations and change their display name anytime. This frictionless entry point aims to maximize ease of use.
Dorsey indirectly acknowledged fake Bitchat apps on Google Play by resharing a post cautioning that the official app is not yet available for Android.
